Holidays at Berwick

The coming of the railways to Berwick encouraged holiday makers to visit the area – then as now, day trippers came from Newcastle and Edinburgh. With the opening of a holiday camp at Carr Rock in 1945, then a caravan park in the 1950s visitors came from further afield for a longer stay.

Forte’s became established on the seafront during the 1920s and opened the Venetian Pavilion by 1935 providing ice creams, teas and evening dances. In the 1960s the pavilion was converted for use as an amusement arcade.
