Berwick Bridges

One of the most spectacular and inspirational views over any town, and a glorious introduction to Berwick upon Tweed, is the approach by train from the south over the 32 arch span of Robert Stephenson’s Royal Border Bridge. Berwick’s other two bridges are close by, in front of the curve of Spittal’s beach and the Northumberland coast, with Lindisfarne in the far distance clearly visible. Leaving Berwick by its narrow old Bridge is equally scenic; leaving via a much lower level of the town affords a view of the two great bridges up river. The newest bridge, the Royal Tweed Road Bridge, was opened by HRH, the Prince of Wales in 1928.
