Joseph Dodd’s account of charges for the building of Town Hall, 1756 Ref: H 14/1/
This account, dated 1756 was presented by Joseph Dodds for expenses incurred and to be incurred in the construction of the Town Hall. For this phase, he was awarded just over £539 (equivalent of over £44,000 today). The account includes some interesting information about the building. For example, he was awarded an extra £100 for making the steeple ten feet taller than the original contract for 140 feet. In addition, he was also awarded over £8 for pumping water out of the foundations for 4 years.
