On 8 October 1862, the sailing ship MAGGIE was registered in the Ship Register of the Port of Berwick. The boat was built at Berwick and completed on 24 September 1862. Its official registration number was 29,505. The ship had one deck, two masts, schooner rigging and a female figure carved on the front and was owned by Matthew Gibson Crossman, ship owner, John Stevenson Landles Paulin, shipowner and George Landles Paulin, Shipping Agent. They all lived in Berwick.

In 1865, Matthew Crossman and John Paulin sold 5 of their shares in the ship to Charles Graham of Berwick whilst George Paulin sold 9 of his shares to David Logan of Berwick.

From 1786, all ships over 15 tons had to be registered at the Customs House of their home port. Each port kept a register of all these ships. Shipping registers are an important source of information about the dimensions and ownership of ships throughout Britain. Registers for the port of Berwick survive for the period 1824 to 1910 in the Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office.
