Northumberland At War Project

In May 2014 Heritage Lottery Fund made a grant of £46500 to Northumberland Archives to allow us to explore some of the many collections that we hold relating to the First World War. Project volunteers working at Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office and Northumberland Archives at Woodhorn will identify and list content, digitise some of it and promote the use of these collections via social media and a series of community events. We will also share some of the digital content that we create via our project on Historypin. Much of this content has been ‘hidden’ in our collections, perhaps within uncatalogued collections, and the project will make it accessible for the first time.
We have set up the project blog to tell you about the work that we are undertaking within the project and to reveal some of the many stories that lie within our collections of the contribution made to the First World War at the Home Front and in the various theatres of war by communities and families in Northumberland. Much of the blog content has been researched and written by project volunteers. We hope that you enjoy reading it.
