LEARN Topic – Hannah Glasse
Hannah Glasse's Art of Cookery
Hannah Glasse (1708-1770) was an 18th century cookery writer with family ties in Northumberland. She published her first cookery book “The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy” in 1747, which became the best-selling recipe book that century. Thanks to the National Lottery Culture Recovery Fund, we have produced the film “Hannah Glasse Saves the Nation” in partnership with November Club. Recipes from the cookery book and letters held by Northumberland Archives have been the inspiration for this film and these activities relating to food, cookery and entertaining from the 18th century to the present day.
To share your recipes and images from any activities please use our submissions page. Submissions may appear on our website gallery.
