LEARN – Photo Centre

Berwick Photo Centre

Photography was first introduced in the mid 19th century and has since become an important visual medium. The Photo Centre, a family run press agency and photo studio in Berwick, documented life in North Northumberland and the Scottish borders from its establishment in 1951 until 2012. Their photographs covered newsworthy events as well as portraying people’s lives through weddings and portraits. It gives a wonderful insight into life at the time including employment, fashion and architecture. Have a look at our website – www.photocentreberwick.co.uk

Below are a series of learning resources created from the Photo Centre negatives held at the Berwick Record Office. They include suggested activities from a wide range of subjects including photography, arts and humanities and are aimed at all key stages and lifelong learners.
